Whether an item is overpriced or not is up to the buyer. From my perspective in looking at this situation for over 35 years, I believe today that even the most novice buyer would have to see that they are paying too much for traditional merchandise awards. The question is, when purchasing employee awards are they paying more than retail and if so how much? And if so, is the value in the infrastructure provided by the supplier to offset the higher price really worth it? Recent research by the Incentive Foundation clearly states that nearly 80% of the client respondents didn’t use outside incentive companies for anything other than for fulfillment of the award. That would seem to indicate that a buyer shouldn’t pay anything more than retail if the vendor is not providing any other service. The days of hiding the value of the award from the employee are over. With the internet they can determine the value of any merchandise item with only couple of clicks. Shouldn’t your employees receive full value for your incentive award budget? Click here for more information on why merchandise awards are overpriced.
